Week 4- Pitch Presentation

Today I delivered my pitch and it went great. It started off a bit rocky but the overall presentation went very successfully. When I got to the room where we were meant to pitch I was a bit confused considering from previous pitches we did it in the OB room with a projector  which we would have a PowerPoint ready. I did create a power point but the Internet wasn’t working properly so I was unable to present it, so instead I just had an informal chat with the tutors.

I tried sticking with my notes but without the PowerPoint I found it more difficult. Whilst explaining the aspects of my pitch I received advice from Richard, an art tutor, advising me to read up on a French book as the character and the development of these characters are similar to the characters I had created. The book is called “Pierre Et Jean” and written by Guy De Maupassant, at this moment in time I don’t think it will be able to adjust my FMP proposal considering that it will take me some time to purchase the book and I will be focused on creating my drama.

I have investigated purchase of this book, however the edition is written in French. I intend to investigate this at a later date.

I got all aspects of what I wanted to get out promptly but what I think really impressed my tutors were when I talked about “what it offers them”. Trying to get my point across was difficult as I was trying to explain this could be a good stepping stone on creating a professional production team which specialise in dramas on behalf of Blackburn College/ University. I went on to explain I want to continue creating a series of this drama and consider this FMP idea as a pilot episode.

Below is my PowerPoint with my notes that I was going to present for my pitch.

Slide 1- Hello
  • Intro
  • Present My FMP

 Slide 2- My Deciding Process
  • Difficult deciding between drama & documentary.
  • Had experience on both.
  • Which benefit me more.
  • Which I enjoy more.
  • IMPORTANT FEASIBLE!!!
  • Why drama? benefit me as a script writer.

Slide 3- What My Drama Is
What
  • Have been developing idea for some time.
  • Want to work on it when older.
  • Plot- follows two boys that have been through an incident which causes them to come together. Meteor shower. They struggle to survive with the new world ahead of them; constant danger, people, environment, starvation, undead.

Inspiration
  • Meteor shower in Russia.
  • Not many people in England seemed to care.
  • How would it change the world.
  • How people would change, trying to survive.
Main Attraction
  • Two brothers complete opposites, caused by fathers death. Mum love & hate relationship.
  • Dealing with each other, past & present issues to deal with bringing close together.
  • Dealing with themselves and how it affects each other.
  • Bonding together.
 Slide 4- Adaptions/changes
  • I understand some aspect too ambitious.
  • Make more feasible
  • Less horror more drama- not going to show undead, camera positioning, character reaction, shorten feature length, similar locations.

Slide 5- Plot Points
  • Shorten script, kept key aspects of the story to keep audience entertained.
  • Time period change from day of incident and week after incident.
  • Allows character to interact more.

Slide 6- Character Development
  • Opposite Characters
  • Mention description in handout.
  • Do example

During this segment I would have mentioned the bullet points on the screen but then done an example using props of how I want the audience to think of the characters. The props I used were soap, dirt and a strong solid abject.
The soap is meant to represent the clean, Innocent pure character Luke. How his life is seen as a good character.
The dirt is meant to represent the dirty, in the way, inconvenient practically useless character. The audience should see him as filth that shouldn't be around.
The solid object is meant to represent the meteor which is to be crashing upon the two characters soon.
After explaining this I would then smash the two materials together causing them to mold into one. I would go on to explain that on their own would be useless against what lies ahead but together they benefit from one another making them stronger.

Slide 7- Locations
  • Mid class house shows that they are an average family.
  • Back alley is not a major location so any will be acceptable.
  • The Basement is the main area so must be large enough for actors and camera movement.

 Slide 8- Prep
  • Finalise locations.
  • Practise with both camera and edit to be prepared.

 Slide 9- Requirements
  • Cast- 4 male & 1 female
  • Crew- Jordan Gott, asking for more.
  • Equipment- camera sound etc.
  • Props- Already got, going into budget report.

Slide 10- What Does This Offer YOU!!!
  • Blackburn College/Uni are rising especially in Media.
  • Offers what others cant.
  • We are treated as professionals.
  • Want to make official production company within next year group.
  • Be on behalf of Blackburn College/Uni.
  • My department would be drama's, this could be first project for next year.
  • Get my professional career rolling.
  • If successful, create a series.
