My Proposal

Review

Since the beginning of the course I have had multiple opportunities towards working at professional standard, I have worked with real clients such as musicians in our studio where we have had band sessions & interviews, I have spread myself out to work on all aspects of the studio. I have been to exotics destinations such as Tanzania where I have conducted interviews and gathered shots of culture, wildlife and lifestyle which went on to become documentaries, and I have written multiply scripts which went on to be produced. The main skills I have improved on since the beginning is writing, directing and producing. Also I have gained more hands on experience with camera operating and editing.   The project I plan to work on will allow me to improve on my writing, directing and editing.

Ideas and Concept

My idea is a short film drama based around two male protagonist, they are brothers and due to a sudden meteor shower has caused them to be trapped in the basement. The drama comes from the relationship before the incident and the situation they are in forcing them to deal with each other.  This concept gives me multiple options to develop through filming to highlight particular situations and character backgrounds. To genre it would be described as a post apocalypse drama. The final product should last roughly fifteen minutes so there is a lot of planning and preparation work to consider, my main objective is to get a cast of real actors and suitable locations, and most of my time will consist of recce and travelling to find the suitable people.

Contextual Research

I have mentioned on my blog of my research throughout, the research mainly consists of aspects which I want to clarify, to make my script as realistic as possible.  The areas of research I need to do are Dehydration, Drug withdrawal, recent meteor shower and similar genre pieces such as “The Road” & “The Walking Dead”. I will gain my research from various information website, news articles and film/TV show reviews.

Techniques and Presentation

With this project I am going to experiment with challenging camera angles and transitions, also I will be using locations which may need lighting equipment.  The way I plan to present my final idea in the exhibition is by presenting it on a large screen along with other student final product but I want to also take photographs during shoot to advertise my final product. The pictures will consist of the two brothers enduring in the basement.  Due to this I will need to arrange booking out extra camera equipment and utilise other students to take on this role.

Evaluation and Progression

To evaluate my progress of my work I will constantly be updating my blog, however if possible I would like to do some extra recording of progress with members of the cast and crew, in the sense of it being a behind the scenes segment of each day, but this would only be used to go onto my blog. Another method of how I am going to evaluate my work is gain feedback from my other peers of test shoots and location image, to which I can use my own camera phone or personal camera to take said images.  Also once I have finished with the final edit and presented it in the exhibition I intend to enter it in a short film competition which ranges my audience and receive criticism on a more professional level.
